Chakra is a sanskrit word that means ‘Wheels of Light.’
The chakra energy system is comprised of seven spiraling pools of energy that are situated at the top of the head and go down to the base of the spine. The chakras are named after the areas of the body over which they govern. Like a rainbow, each chakra has a color associated to it. Starting at the first chakra, the Root Chakra, at the base of the spine, the color is red and the last chakra, the Crown Chakra, at the top of the head, has the color of light purple and white.
The chakras carry fresh energy into the body and transport stagnant energies out of the body.
They service the organs, muscles, ligaments, veins and other parts of the body that sit within their field; support grounding and survival, creativity, identity and power to love and express our truth, perception, and transcendence.
The first three chakras assist with grounding the person into the physical realm, the fourth chakra is the heart chakra, and is the gateway to receiving and giving love, followed by the 5th through 7th chakras which are more transcendental, connecting with Spirit and the heavens.
Chakras can be balanced through energy work, sound healing, and mediation.
